Society for American Archaeology comes to the Bay Area

San Francisco, California – April 15-19

We are literally a ferry-ride away from the San Francisco Hilton, nestled next to the ferry terminal in Marin County. Our schedule for these courses is to be determined. If you are interested in attending a workshop on a specific date, please reach out to us at training (at) codifi.org, call, or tweet @CoDA_ucb.

April 14, 9am-5pm : Paperless Archaeology Workshop

In celebration of the 80th Society for American Archaeology meetings in San Francisco, and the 4th anniversary of the Center for Digital Archaeology, we invite you to participate in learning how paperless archaeology can transform the way we work. It’s really time to give it a try.

In projects worldwide, we see the benefits and help to overcome the challenges of ‘going digital,’ but it really is so much more than just about speed and efficiency. The strategic replacement of paper produces better archaeology, higher value products for clients, researchers and the public, and if done well, creates a more durable, lasting archaeological record than its analog counterpart.

We all use digital tools – cameras, GPS, EDM in the field, and Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator and sometimes GIS in the back office – but the proliferation of paper forms and discrete digital files to represent them still rules supreme in most archaeological ecosystems. This leads to a huge amount of redundancy, human errors and lost productivity throughout the entire process – from proposal to planning to fieldwork to back office analysis and editing and submission of final reports. We can do better. We are doing better.

April 14, 6pm – Last Ferry to SF : CoDA Open House

Please join us for an informal open house celebration and early kickoff to the 80th annual SAA meetings. Keep in mind we are located strategically next to the Golden Gate Ferry Terminal in Larkspur. Also strategically located adjacent to the Marin Brewing Company, and should you wish to continue the conversation, it happens to be Pint Night on Tuesday.
